He is currently serving 2 & a half year prison term for parole violations

A Russian court's sentenced Alexei Navalny to nine years in a maximum security prison after convicting him of fraud and contempt of court.

The Kremlin critic has also been fined over €10,000.

The 45-year-old is already serving two-and-a-half years at a prison camp near Moscow, for parole violations related to charges he says were fabricated.

The prosecution acussed Mr. Navalny of embezzling money - which he and his foundation raised - and of insulting a judge during a previous trial.

Mr. Navalny denied the allegations.
