Follows 11 days of violence, in which over 60 children died
A ceasefire between Israel and Palestinian militant groups has been in place since midnight, and has so far held.
It ended 11 days of violence in Gaza and southern Israel which left hundreds dead - mainly Palestinians, including more than 60 children.
The truce has been negotiated by Egypt, while the US has put heavy pressure on the Israelis.
US President Joe Biden spoke at the White House after the agreement was reached:
I believe that Palestinians and Israelis equally deserve to live in safety and security and to enjoy equal measures of freedom, prosperity, and democracy.
