EU Will Advance Work On Further Sanctions Against Russia

Reports of atrocities in Bucha, outside capital of Kyiv

The European Union will advance as a matter of urgency work on further sanctions against Russia.

It follows reports of atrocities in Bucha and other areas of Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has visited the site of alleged war crimes near the country's capital Kyiv.

Images emerged in recent days of mass graves and civilians lying dead in the street after being shot.

Moscow has denied it's troops carried out the killings.

The attacks have been widely condemned but Russia denies responsibility

EU Commission spokesperson Peter Stano says the Kremlin is committing war crimes:

The US envoy to the UN will ask the General Assembly to suspend Russia from the Human Rights Council.

A two-third majority vote by the 193-member assembly in New York can suspend a state from the body.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian MP Lisa Yasko has appealed for more support from the West:
