In Auckland
A case of the Omicron Covid-19 variant has been detected in New Zealand.
The case was confirmed in an individual who had flown from Britain, and then visited a nightclub in Auckland.
The individual arrived a fortnight ago and completed self-isolation - but did not test positive for the virus until day nine, and had visited a number of venues in the city by that time.
New Zealand has no Omicron cases in the community yet, with the only positive results detected at the border.
