Ukraine's Foreign Ministry claims thousands of Ukrainian children have been illegally removed from the eastern Donetsk and Luhansk regions, and taken to Russia.
The US embassy in Kyiv has called it kidnapping, not assistance - there has been no response from Moscow.
Ukraine's President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, also claimed abductions have been taking place.
He addressed the Italian Parliament through a translator:
