Assaults And Thefts Dominate Kildare Crime Statistics In The First Four Months Of The Year

Sexual offences were another concern, with 31 incidents reported, including 29 cases of rape and sexual assault.

Theft and assault incidents are among the most recorded crimes in Kildare.

CSO data for the Kildare Garda Division in the first quarter of 2024 reveal that there were a total of 761 theft-related offences recorded in the Kildare Garda Division.

There were also 314 incidents of theft from shops and 352 other theft-related cases - including handling stolen property - making theft the most prevalent crime in the region.

Assault and related offences were also among the highest reported crimes, with 225 incidents recorded.

There were also 46 cases of assault causing harm and 130 other assaults.

Sexual offences were another major concern, with 31 incidents reported, including 29 cases of rape and sexual assault.

Driving offences remain an issue, with 59 incidents of driving over the legal alcohol limit and 44 cases of driving under the influence of drugs.

Nationally, the number of sexual offences has dropped, while kidnapping offences jumped up by 52 per cent.

The report also found that while the number of victims of assault and harassment dropped, more male victims were reporting these crimes than women.

Meanwhile, the number of prisoners in Ireland has surpassed 5000 for the first time.

On average, over 4,800 people were detained every month this year.

This follows a European wide report earlier this year which found Ireland had a prison density of 99.4 prisoners for every 100 places available.
