Kildare County Council cannot take-in-charge an unfinished housing estate.
A councillor is calling for the creation of a specific Kildare County Council post to tackle unfinished housing developments.
An "unfinished" estate may range from a development where structural or other building works are incomplete, to one where homes are habitable, but completion works are required to the development as a whole.
The Housing Agency, in its most recent survey of unfinished developments nationwide, noted that in 2017, there were 4 developments in Kildare, complete and occupied.
Nationally, there has been a 91% reduction in the number of unfinished housing developments since 2010.
However, there are numerous estates throughout the county while are essentially complete, but the developer has not handed over their maintenance to the local authority. These are also classed as "unfinished".
