The route, designed to funnel chronic traffic congestion out of the town centre, was first mooted in the 70s.

The contract for construction of the Athy Southern Distributor Road is being signed today.

The route, designed to funnel chronic traffic congestion out of the town centre, was first mooted in the 70s.

Preparatory works for the €30 million road have been underway for some years.

The contract was awarded by Kildare County Council to Kill headquartered BAM Civil last week.

Building works are expected to begin next month.

Athy Labour Cllr., Aoife Breslin, says its a keynote day

Cllr. Breslin joined Ciara Noble on Tuesday's edition of Kildare Today on her motions before the October meeting of the Athy Municipal District.
