Some one in twenty people are affected with ADHD

Cross and Passion College has been designated the first ADHD-friendly school in Ireland, according to the accreditation programme of support organisation ADHD Ireland.

It follows the completion of a pilot of the charity's School Accreditation Programme, and it will now be rolled out across the country.

Thirteen teachers at CPC are participating in the programme, which in coming weeks will be presenting flags to Cork and Dublin schools.

ADHD Ireland's hope is that the accreditation flag will soon be in every school around the country.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a medical-neurobiological condition in which the brain’s neurotransmitter chemicals, noradrenalin, and dopamine, do not work properly.

It is a genetic and long-term condition that affects learning and behaviour right through the school years and in many cases into adulthood.

Around one in 20 children are affected with the disorder.

The main goal of the project is to provide an understanding of the needs of young people with ADHD and to give practical information.

The project is delivered throughout the school year, via online training delivered by industry professionals from ADHD Ireland and the ADHD Foundation (UK).

However, parents/carers are invited to join private sessions on ADHD Ireland as the aim is to have everyone involved in the young people’s lives to be informed and educated to help benefit them in all aspects of their lives.
