The Royal Canal could be narrowed at three stretches under plans by Dublin City Council.

The Irish Times reports it's seeking planning permission to narrow areas between Cross Guns Bridge and Ashtown village in the north inner city.

The proposals would help facilitate the Royal Canal Greenway, which travels through North Kildare, assist access for residents' cars and improve access for maintenance vehicles.
