Emily Square Redevelopment In Athy Gets €2.7M Funding Injection

€67,650 has also been allocated for the creation of a Visitor Masterplan for Donadea Forest Park.

A significant funding allocation of €2.7m from Fáilte Ireland has been confirmed for the redevelopment and regeneration of Emily Square in Athy.

The project is part of a broader initiative where 22 projects nationwide have received a total of €27.1 million under Fáilte Ireland’s EU Just Transition Regenerative Tourism and Placemaking Scheme.

The funding, co-funded by the Government and the EU, will enable Kildare County Council to advance their plans to enhance Emily Square.

This redevelopment is expected to improve the livability, work environment, and tourism appeal of Athy.

Currently, a €6.9 million government-funded development of the Shackleton Museum is also underway in the area.

The new funding for Emily Square complements other significant state-backed investments in South Kildare, including the multi-million-euro Athy Distributor Road and the Food and Drinks hub under construction.

Additionally, €67,650 has been allocated for the creation of a visitor masterplan for Donadea Forest Park.
