The current graveyard is close to capacity.
At the recent Clane-Maynooth MD meeting, Fine Gael Cllr. Brendan Wyse requested that Kildare County Council prioritise the provision of extra capacity in Allen Graveyard as a matter of urgency.
Fianna Fail Cllr. Daragh Fitzpatrick has issued similar calls in recent months, as the graveyard is very close to capacity.
In its response, Kildare County Council said that a tender has been awarded for the development of the lands to the south of the existing cemetery.
The Council also confirmed that a "contractor is due to soon commence works", with the duration of works being an estimated "6 weeks."
