Fianna Fáil believe there is an insufficient amount of gardaí on our streets resulting in a higher crime rate
Fianna Fáil is proposing the establishment of a crime unit to help combat an "uptick" in rural criminality.
The proposal would also see an increase of 5,000 in Garda numbers on the streets of Kildare and around Ireland, if the party is elected to government.
Fianna Fáil TD for Cork South West, Christopher O'Sullivan, says regional parts of Ireland often lack sufficient Gardaí numbers due to higher concentrations being placed in Dublin.
