Frustration Boils Over: Locals Demands Answers After Latest Burst Main Leaves Thousands Without Water

Local councillor Aidan Farrelly has questioned why it takes repeated disruptions before any permanent solutions are implemented.

The repair works might be complete but a local councillor has questioned why residents need to experience water outage after water outage before something is done.

Residents in several Kildare areas have voiced growing frustration after yet another water outage due to repair works on a burst water main.

Speaking on Kildare Today, Local councillor Aidan Farrelly has questioned why it takes repeated disruptions before any permanent solutions are implemented.

The latest outage, which occurred last night, affected thousands of households in Carbury, Derrinturn, Killina, Allenwood, Coill Dubh, Robertstown, Prosperous, and nearby areas.

Many residents have faced ongoing water supply issues, prompting concerns about the reliability of the current infrastructure.

Councillor Farrelly expressed residents’ increasing impatience, pointing out that these outages have become a regular occurrence.

"Uisce Éireann could set up a permanent office in the area," he said, noting the frequency of water supply disruptions.

He said that local councillors were assured a much-needed upgrade to the water line would begin by the second quarter of this year, but that  didn't happen.

Kildare South TD Martin Heydon confirmed that works are expected to commence in the coming weeks.

He explained that the main water trunk servicing the region has reached its "end of life" and that meetings between contractors and Kildare County Council (KCC) have been ongoing.

He said a road opening license is being sought, with no foreseeable issues in obtaining approval from Kildare County Council.

Following last night's disruption, Uisce Éireann said: "Some customers may have brown water and we would ask these customers to run their taps for up to 20 minutes until the water runs clear.”

Here's what Deputy Heydon had to say about the work that is expected to commence soon.
