It has been given €24,000.
Funding has been allocated to the Curragh under the Community Monuments Grant 2021 Fund.
€24,000 will be used to facilitate a Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) survey of the Curragh and parts of Knockaulin.
The information gathered from the survey will be used to inform the Consultation Management plan for the Curragh. The funding will also compliment the geophysical survey scheduled for Old Kilcullen.
Kildare South Fine Gael TD and Minister of State, Martin Heydon, says “I would like to acknowledge the Heritage Department within Kildare County Council and their commitment to progressing the Curragh Consultation process and I look forward to the next phase of this project.”
South county Independent TD, Cathal Berry, says “The money is to assist with the upkeep of historical sites as part of the new Curragh Plains strategy. Its great to see some financial backing for the initiative. I believe it’s a real vote of confidence in the area becoming a National Park which I very much support. Grateful to Minister Noonan for providing this funding. We have had regular discussions on the future of the Curragh and I look forward to more such funding being made available into the future.”
