IRHA makes a series of recommendations to stave-off long delays in the delivery of goods across Ireland.
The Irish Road Hauliers Association is warning that Ireland is short of up to 4,000 HGV drivers.
This has the potential to cause lengthening delays in the delivery of goods.
In Britain, food and goods shortages are already apparent, given a shortage there of around 100,000 drivers.
The IHRA has made a number of recommendations to stave-off such a prospect in Ireland.
These include a shorter application time for HGV driver permits, the introduction of a single entity responsible for processing permits and a temporary driver card that allows non-EU drivers to start work before getting their Irish licence.
Its also wants flexibility on tachograph rules on driving time limits to take account of bad weather and other emergencies and delays.
Eugene Drennan is President of the Irish Road Hauliers Associations.
He joined Ciara Noble on Friday's edition of Kildare Today.
