Kildare County Council wants to retain changes to a Naas square for the duration of the pandemic.
Parking spaces were removed from Poplar Square, and socially distanced seating installed.
It is characterised as a "tactical urbanism covid-19 response project"
KCC, responding to Social Democrats Cllr., Bill Clear, says the scheme "will inform the future design outcomes for its use as a permanent public space for the town."
It says that, subject to funding, it may install umbrellas on the square's picnic tables, to enable use during winter months.
