Ann Wilson, 44, admitted to fraudulently claiming over €35,000 after a low-speed collision at Ballycullen Roundabout on 4 February 2013.
A Kildare woman has avoided jail with a suspended sentence after making a fraudulent insurance claim following a staged traffic accident in south Dublin.
Ann Wilson, 44, admitted to fraudulently claiming over €35,000 after a low-speed collision at Ballycullen Roundabout on 4 February 2013.
Wilson, of Ledwill Park, Kilcock, pleaded guilty to inducing AXA insurance to pay personal injuries between 1 February 2013 and 15 July 2014.
At Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, Judge Martin Nolan sentenced Wilson to three years in prison, suspended due to her parental responsibilities for her son, who is paralysed from an unrelated accident.
Wilson's partner, Thomas O’Neill, 47, was sentenced to two years in prison for his role in the fraud.
O’Neill, of Glenmore Green, Ballyboden, Dublin 16, pleaded guilty to deception and was described by Judge Nolan as an "active participant."
O’Neill’s sister, Deirdre Mellor, 54, of Park na Gréine, Tallaght, received a suspended two-year sentence for attempted deception.
She did not proceed with her insurance claim as it was statute-barred.
AXA Insurance investigated the claim and found from social media that all parties involved knew each other.
The staged incident, not reported to the gardaí, led to Wilson receiving €21,595 for herself, €550 for material damages, and €14,000 for her son.
None of the money was recovered.
Wilson has four previous road traffic convictions, while O’Neill has 70, including for handling stolen property.
Mellor has one prior conviction for driving without insurance.
