Local authorities are required to inspect private rented properties to ensure they meet relevant standards.

Kildare County Council has been conducting virtual inspections of privately rented accommodation.

The Dept. of Housing requires that all local authorities inspect a proportion of these properties in their catchment area, annually.

Its to ensure they meet relevant standards.

There are over 12,000 privately rented homes in Kildare.

Housing Minister, Darragh O'Brien, responding to Sinn Fein's Eoin O'Broin, says 1,400 virtual inspections were undertaken by councils in Kildare, Dublin and Monaghan last year, as part of a pilot project.

1,900 virtual inspections took place across Ireland in the first part of the year.
