Kildare County Council Leads European Project On Clean Energy Transformation

Sonya Kavanagh, Chief Executive of Kildare County Council

The initiative builds on the momentum of the council’s Climate Action Plan 2024–2029, which aims to create a low-carbon, climate-resilient county

Kildare County Council is spearheading Repower Regions, a major three-year Erasmus+ Alliance for Innovation project focused on decarbonisation, digital skills, and sustainable heating and cooling solutions across Europe. The initiative builds on the momentum of the council’s Climate Action Plan 2024–2029, which aims to create a low-carbon, climate-resilient county.

Bringing together 12 partners from 10 European countries, the project was officially launched in Naas on March 20, 2025. Speaking at the event, Sonya Kavanagh, Chief Executive of Kildare County Council, highlighted the initiative’s role in strengthening energy security, building economic resilience, and supporting Europe’s net-zero emissions goal by 2050.

With a growing demand for skilled professionals in sustainable heating and cooling, Repower Regions will enhance training for higher education, vocational education, and industry workers in the HVAC and construction sectors. Over the next three years, the project will develop updated curricula, industry-focused training materials, and modern teaching methods to bridge the skills gap and boost innovation in clean energy.

Educators, policymakers, and industry professionals are encouraged to engage with the project and stay updated via repowerregions.eu and social media channels.
