Between January and March 2025, Kildare emerged as one of the stronger performers in the national grant scheme, with 24 grants issued upon completion of works
Figures published today have revealed that over €155.2 million has been paid out to Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant applicants, bringing 2,856 homes back into residential use from vacancy nationwide.
This represents a significant increase on the same period last year when 226 grants were paid out in Quarter 2 of 2024.
Kildare County Council received 34 Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant applications between 1 April 2025 to 30 June 2025.
Out of those 34, 25 were approved, totalling a value of €1,596,335 in grants issued on completion of works.
The Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant provides funding to allow the refurbishment vacant and derelict homes.
It can also be used to renovate vacant and derelict properties that have not been used as residential properties before.
This only applies if the non-residential properties were used for commercial or public use before and now have the correct planning permission.
More than 700 grants were paid in Q2 2025 on completion of works, according to the new figures.
Independent Cllr in the Naas MD, Bill Clear, posted on X that there is movement for derelict buildings in the area, including the former Alms House.
