Speaking on Kildare Today, Cllr Nuala Killeen said the post office is an integral part of day-to-day interactions for locals.
"It's a last-ditch attempt" to support the community.
That's according to Cllr Nuala Killeen after over a thousand people signed a petition to keep the post office on Main Street in Leixlip.
With 20,000 residents in the area, a lot of people are extremely unhappy over the relocation.
Speaking on Kildare Today, Cllr Killeen said the post office is an integral part of day-to-day interactions for locals.
"We are now calling on the people of Leixlip to sign our petition so we can put even more pressure on An Post to keep a post office in The Mall, its current location. An Post doesn’t want to change its mind to give us a central Post Office, but if enough of us take action, we might be able to show them how detrimental this move would be for the local community," she said.
Leixlip post office will close its doors on September 13th.
It will reopen on Monday September 16th at Barnhall Shopping Centre, Celbridge Road.
