The Department says a location is "being confirmed"

The Department of Education has told Kfm that the location of a new special school in South Kildare is "being confirmed".

This follows queries raised by parents on the Kildare Today programme this week.

In December 2023, Minister Norma Foley and Minister Josepha Madigan announced the establishment of a further four new special schools for the 2024/25 school year in Meath, Kildare, Wexford and Limerick.

The locations of the new special schools in Limerick and Kildare are being confirmed, however, the locations of the two special schools in Meath and Wexford are confirmed as Enfield and Gorey respectively.

The Department says it is "actively working on securing suitable locations which will meet the requirements of the new special schools in Limerick and Kildare".

Monasterevin, Athy and Castledermot have all been suggested as suitable locations, but nothing has been confirmed.
