Courts correspondent Frank Greaney discussed the case on Tuesday's 'Kildare Today'
At yesterday's sentencing hearing Stephen Penrose, of Newtown Court, Malahide Road, Coolock, Dublin 17, was handed the mandatory life sentence for murdering Philip Finnegan.
Philip Finnegan’s decapitated body was found in Rahin Woods, Co Kildare in September 2017, three weeks after his mother reported him missing
Mr. Penrose had previously denied murdering Phillip Finnegan in 2017, but a jury found him guilty by unanimous verdict.
Jurors heard gruesome details of how Phillip died, and how Mr. Penrose tried to cover up the murder.
During the trial, Mr. Penrose fired his legal team and represented himself, for the murder of his friend.
In her victim impact statement at yesterday's sentencing hearing, Philip’s mother, Angela, spoke about the devastation of their loss and she accused Penrose of going out of his way to torture her even further:
Courts Correspondent Frank Greaney noted how Angela rubbed her hands over her son's dead body, to cleanse him of the evil he had suffered.
Speaking directly to Stephen Penrose yesterday, Ms. Finnegan said "Philip wasn't yours to take he was mine".
