New Insurance Rule: Locals Must Provide Driver Numbers Or Risk Not Being Covered

One in twelve people in Ireland are currently driving without insurance.

Locals will have to provide their driver number when renewing their motor insurance from the end of the month.

If they don't include all named drivers' numbers on their policy, they won't legally be able to get insured.

One in twelve people in Ireland are currently driving without insurance.

The number is listed under point 4(d) on a driver's license.

The Motor Insurers’ Bureau of Ireland has is warning it will be an offence for the provider or broker if it isn't supplied.

Its chief executive, David Fitzgerald, says the aim is to help Gardaí crackdown on uninsured drivers.
