Cllr Pender envisions artist studios, a lively youth cafe, and dynamic hot-desking spaces
Located in close proximity to Newbridge's notable landmarks such as the County Library and the Riverbank Arts Centre, the building's potential transformation offers more than just a physical space, explained Pender.
Cllr Pender envisions artist studios, a lively youth cafe, and dynamic hot-desking spaces — all under one roof.
"Conversations with local artists illuminated a pressing need: a dedicated space to create, innovate, and collaborate.
"And while some feel that places like the Riverbank Arts Centre could fill this gap, it's evident that our artists yearn for something more — spaces to practice, meeting rooms, and studios," Cllr Pender said.
"This isn't about putting a definitive plan into motion but sowing the seeds for discussion and collective envisioning," he insisted.
Addressing some of the concerns from residents about current unused properties and financial aspects, Cllr Pender adds, "This isn't about purchasing yet another building without purpose. It's about strategic investment in our town's future, acknowledging both our artistic community and the broader needs of our residents."
Furthermore, he highlights that the former Ulster Bank building's optimal location and structure allow for varied use, including youth initiatives, which can play a pivotal role in addressing broader community challenges, such as anti-social behaviour.
"We're not just considering a building, but the very essence of Newbridge — our aspirations, dreams, and the vibrant tapestry of our community. I invite everyone to join this conversation, to shape a vision that truly encapsulates the spirit of our town," he added.
Residents, artists, and all interested parties are encouraged to share their feedback, thoughts, and suggestions.
