Cllr Noel Connolly brought forward motions to the Kildare Newbridge MD.
The Kildare Town Courthouse has been purcahsed but the sale has not been concluded.
Cllr. Noel Connolly of Sinn Fein has asked that it might be used as an arts centre, for local artists.
Cllr. Connolly brought forward the following motions at a recent Kildare- Newbridge MD.
He has also asked for the provision of bioswales to be considered in the Kildare- Newbridge municipal district, particularly but not limited to dealing with areas that flood perennially
It is being considered for use in Dara Park, Newbridge.
The council has said the provision of bioswales is most suitable to dealing with surface water as opposed to river based flooding, which is usually dealt with through flood defence measures.
Flood Risk Management are currently trialing nature-based solutions, such as tree pits, swales and rain gardens, as the opportunities arise, e.g. proposing tree pits in St. Patrick’s Park, Rathangan.
However, the council says for any trial to be meaningful, the nature-based solution must be appropriate to the area and the type of flooding, otherwise they become unmanageable or cannot be maintained.
Cllr. Connolly says it allows the use of rainwater in a sustainable way.
Cllr. Connolly asked the members of the municipal district to write to the Defence Department asking them to correct the date of the Donnelly-Cooper fight on the monument at Donnelly's Hollow,The Curragh.
There is a public petition running and it is being backed by the local councillors.
The fight took place on the 13th November 1815, but the monument lists it as 13 December 1815.
Cllr. Connolly has asked for this to be amended. he has asked that this be changed.
