Uisce Éireann commenced works last November as part of their National Leakage Reduction Programme to provide a more reliable water supply to the community and reduce high levels of leakage
Uisce Éireannn has announced that 1.3km of new water mains have been replaced to reduce high levels of leakage and provide a more reliable water supply to the community of Allenwood.
Last November, works were commenced on the replacement of almost 4km of water mains in the Allenwood area under the National Leakage Reduction Programme.
Working hours are 8am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday.
Uisce Éireann expects these works to be completed by early Q3 2025.
To safely facilitate these works, a stop-go traffic management plan will continue along the R415 between Allen Reservoir and Allen Cross for the duration of the works.
During working hours traffic will be monitored by traffic marshals, and outside working hours temporary traffic lights will be in use.
To minimise the impact on motorists, the traffic management plan will be rolled out in several phases.
Programme Manager for Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme, Nicola Butler, has said: “Replacing these problematic water mains will eliminate existing leaks and significantly reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground.
"We would like to thank the residents in Allenwood for facilitating these works and working with us to provide a more secure and reliable water supply for generations to come.
Separately, Uisce Éireann are reminding people that submissions to their non-statutory consultation for the Water Supply Project Eastern and Midlands Region are closing before midnight on March 4th.
