REVEALED: Moyvalley Hotel & Golf Resort Apartments Will Not Accommodate International Protection Applicants

The International Protection Procurement Service has discontinued its appraisal of the Moyvalley apartments for this purpose.

Kfm can exclusively reveal that apartments located on the grounds of the Moyvalley Hotel and Golf Resort will not be used to house international protection applicants.

Mr. Karl Sandhu, a multi-millionaire and CEO of the Citicorp Group had been in discussions with the current owners over potentially purchasing the estate, but no formal sale was completed.

Kfm has now learned that the sale of the estate is being put on hold by the current owners.

In October 2024, Mr. Sandhu applied to Kildare County Council for a planning exemption to change the use of 32 apartments on the premises to house international protection applicants.

Kildare County Council confirmed to Mr. Sandhu on the 19th of December 2024 that the re-purposing of the apartments would be considered an exempted development and a planning exemption would apply.

Mr. Sandhu told Kfm in mid-January that discussions were “ongoing” between his company and the Department of Integration to accommodate families in the apartments, however Kfm can now reveal that the International Protection Procurement Service has discontinued its appraisal of the Moyvalley apartments for this purpose.

In a statement to Kfm, Mr. Sandhu said that “due to recent developments” his company “will not be pursuing its discussions with the owners of Moyvalley any further”.

The current owners confirmed this in a statement to Kfm, saying “due to recent events, we have withdrawn the property from sale.”

Tenants, who are currently living in the apartments, have been served with notices of termination and have been asked to leave. Some have already moved out.

There had been some confusion as to who actually issued those notices, but a statement from the current owners of Moyvalley Hotel and Golf Resort clarified the situation.

The statement, issued exclusively to Kfm's 'Kildare Today' programme, confirmed that the current owners served notices of termination to the tenants of the apartments and not Mr. Sandhu.

A peaceful protest was held outside the Hotel for the last two Saturdays.

Local resident Larry Malone told the 'Kildare Today' show that the latest news is welcome and hopes the previous tenants of the apartments will be invited back to live there.

He said the Moyvalley Hotel and Golf Resort is a "fantastic amenity" and encouraged local people to get out and support the current owners.
