Niamh Ni Hoireabhaird has described the situation as a "double whammy for wheelchair users and those with disabilities"
A local woman from Sallins has spoken up about her struggle to get on the property ladder whilst having a disability.
Niamh Ni Hoireabhaird, who has Freidreich's Ataxia, has detailed her experience in trying to find a home amidst the housing crisis along with trying to find one wheelchair accessible, as one that is a crisis within a crisis.
Niamh has recently gotten married, and has said that when someone receiving disability allowance gets married, their allowance is reduced or cut.
Her allowance has been cut.
She said this is something she was aware of, and was worried about when it came to find a place to move into.
She and her husband have had to move into her parents home in Sallins in order to find a place of their own.
The couple don’t qualify for social housing as they sit just above the income threshold (€42,000 per annum), and Niamh said privately renting is out of the question because they simply cannot afford it.
Speaking on this morning's Kildare Today programme, Niamh described it as a "double whammy for wheelchair uses and those with disabilities".
