Sharp Drop In Number Of Home Tuition Grants Paid In Kildare.

That fall is mirrored all over Ireland, and may be attributable to Covid 19 restrictions.

There was a sharp drop in the number of home tuition grants paid in Kildare last year.

The Minister of State at the Dept. of Education, Josepha Madigan, says "Home Tuition Grant Schemes provide funding towards the provision of a compensatory educational service for children who, for a number of specific reasons, are unable to attend school. By its nature, it is intended to be a short term intervention."

111 such grants were paid to parents in the county in 2019, to facilitate in-home learning for their children.

Last year, that fell to 63.

That fall is mirrored all over Ireland, and may be attributable to Covid 19 restrictions.

The Dept. says "Home Tutors are engaged by the parents/guardian of the child who is to receive tuition. Home tutors do not have a contractual relationship with the Department of Education and Skills."
