The Department of Education has directed schools not to use Special Education Teachers as subs

The Teaching Council, headquartered in Maynooth, has contacted over 100,000 teachers on its register in an effort to boost the number of subs available.

Principals are warning the shortage of substitute teachers alongside increased teacher absences due to Covid could lead to pupils being sent home from school.

The Department of Education has directed schools not to use Special Education Teachers as subs, but some principals say they've no other option.
