Kildare County Council has begun work today on refurbishment of the Market Square/Courthouse Square area of Newbridge.
The project includes installation of picnic tables and seating, wall and fixed seating on Courthouse Square and Georges Street.
Social distancing markings are being laid down, and umbrellas installed to account for the Irish summer.
There will also be an urban play area with children’s picnic table and bench and painted hopscotch on the tarmac surface.

The full details of the works are:
Completion of the cleaning of existing paving, wall and fixed seating on Courthouse Square and Georges Street.
- Social distancing line markings to be installed
- New Picnic benches with the installation of wheelchair accessible picnic tables to follow.
- New Umbrellas are proposed to provide shelter from the elements.
- Existing railings and light standards to be painted black.
- Proposed urban play area with children’s picnic table and bench and painted hopscotch etc (as shown) on the tarmac surface.
- Existing black bench to be newly painted and relocated to overlook the play area.
- New fibreglass and corten steel planters proposed – some with high planting to screen the view of cars parked at the garage.
- Pride coloured markings proposed to the existing raised table to further emphasise pedestrian movement at the junction of Georges Street and Eyre Street
- Solar powered LED lights to be erected to span between the existing mature trees in Courthouse Square.
In conjunction with the above, Kildare County Council are progressing proposals for Georges Street and the existing carpark at the junction of Main Street and Liffey View.
