2,000 retained fire fighters are striking today over a dispute regarding pay and conditions.

The SIPTU members voted to reject a recent Labour Court recommendation.

The union claims county councils have pitted the Irish public against fire crews as they haven't put an emergency plan in place for the strike.

Station Officer in Cork County Fire Service, Jonathan Madden says despite the work stoppage the public should face little disruption:
