Car rental prices in Ireland are as much as 75% higher than other European countries.
An investigation of car rental prices over a two week period during the height of the tourism season in August found tourists here are paying more than in a range of other destinations.
The cheapest small car available during that fortnight was a Volkswagon Polo costing €2704.
While the cheapest family car available was a Nissan Qashquai costing €5464.
During the same two week period you can get a small car to rent for 70% cheaper in Lisbon and Rome.
In Athens it is 65% cheaper, while in Barcelona it is 58%.
To hire a family car for two weeks the price differences are massive again; in Athens, Lisbon and Barcelona you can get a family car for around €4000 cheaper.
