DSCPA Appeals For Support: Calls For Donations To Tackle Post-Christmas Surge In Abandoned Pets

Gillian is reminding people that dogs are a longer commitment than engagement rings.

The DCSPA's "Be A Good Human" campaign is asking pet owners to be better people this Christmas.

Dogs, cats, guinea pigs, rabbits and reptiles are popular Christmas gifts that are often brought to animal shelters or dumped once they're older or have behavioural issues.

Gillian Bird from the DSCPA says dogs in particular are returned when the "puppy love" wears off, making them more difficult to re-home than younger animals.

The DSPCA is appealing for donations of any size to support the charity.
