Extra supports for garda whistleblowers are being put in place.

Transparency International has been appointed as the specialist body to provide independent advice to gardai.

Its Integrity at Work programme includes a confidential helpline and access to free legal advice.

Garda Commissioner Drew Harris says anyone who reports wrongdoing can be assured that the concern will be treated seriously and thoroughly investigated where considered appropriate.
