Three of the children who died from the illness were aged under ten
Four children have died as a result of invasive Strep A infection since October.
The HSE says there has been an increase in Strep A infections recently, with 39 cases reported in the last 3 months alone.
Figures from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre show that to date, a total of 73 cases have been reported this year.

While cases are increasing in Ireland, they have not increased to the same extent as in the UK, where there's a significant upsurge.
