IPU Member: Women Should Be Able To Access Oral Contraception Without A Prescription.

From today, women in some parts of the UK can buy the pill over the counter in pharmacies.

Women in Ireland should be able to access oral contraception in their local pharmacy without a prescription, according to leading member of the Irish Pharmacy Union.

From today women in some parts of the UK can buy the pill over the counter in pharmacies.

Until now a GP prescription was required, as is the current situation here.

Cathy Maher, chair of the IPU's contractors committee, says there's no reason for this as oral contraception is one of the safest medicines available:
