Ireland's inflation rate is estimated to be 5% in the year to September.
That's up from a rate of 4 point 9 per cent in the 12 months to August, according to the CSO.
For the month of September, energy prices rose by 3 point 7 per cent and were up 9 per cent in the year.
The figures relate to the EU Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices.
