Legal Requirement To Wear Masks Could Be Dropped By NPHET Tomorrow

NPHET will consider if the legal requirement to wear masks should be dropped when it meets tomorrow.

It could be replaced with guidance to keep wearing one in shops, schools and on public transport.

The current rules are due to stay in place until February 28th.

The Education Minister says the government will drop the legal requirement for people to wear masks if NPHET recommends it.

The regulations enforcing the rule in shops and on public transport are in place until the end of this month.

For nearly two years, we've all had to remember to bring a mask with us when leaving the house.

But the legal requirement to wear one in shops or on public transport may soon be dropped - and replaced with guidance.

They could also become optional in schools if that's what NPHET recommends when it meets tomorrow.

Journalist, Jen Hogan spoke to KFM, she asked why children were continuing to endure Covid- 19 restrictions when pubs and nightclubs are now open:
