Man (51) Charged With The Murder Of His Mother Miriam Burns In Killarney

The accused has been remanded in custody to appear before Tralee District Court on Wednesday

A 51 year old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of his mother at her home in Kerry last summer.

Billy Burns, with an address at Arlington Lodge, Church Street, Tralee, was arrested this afternoon.

The body of 75 year old Miriam Burns was found at her home at 45 Ardshanavooley, Killarney on 15th August last year, having suffered, what Gardaí described as, a violent death.

Her son has today been charged with her murder.

51 year old Billy Burns was arrested on Church Street, Tralee at 12.45 this afternoon.

A sitting of Killarney District Court - attended by family members of both Billy and Miriam Burns - heard the accused has been living in a hostel in Tralee and is on disability allowance.

His solicitor applied for legal aid and requested that Mr. Burns receive all appropriate medical attention, including psychiatric treatment.

The defence also told the court that a bail application will be made to the High Court.

The accused has been remanded in custody to appear before Tralee District Court tomorrow, via video link from Cork Prison.
