348 of them are in Dublin.
Almost 1,300 people under the age of 65 are still living in nursing homes.
According to freedom of information figures, 730 are male and 567 are female.
In May of last year, the Ombudsman Peter Tyndall published a report, called 'Wasted Lives', about the number under-65s in nursing homes.
He said it's time for a better future for younger people in these facilities.
New figures, released under the Freedom of Information Act, show there has been little change in the meantime.
Latest figures show 1,297 people in this age-group are still living in nursing homes.
Of the under-65s living in nursing homes, 348 are in Dublin - but every region in the country also has significant numbers.
That includes 74 in Tipperary, and 70 in Galway
