701 people are on the waiting list for the adoption information and tracing service.
It has risen by 150 in the space of six months, according to Tusla's latest figures.
The service allows adopted children, birth parents and relatives to seek information about their past.
Chairperson of the Oireachtas children's committee, Kathleen Funchion, says the delays are unacceptable.
