Gardai launched a dedicated phone line on Thursday for people to report crimes relating to a pregnancy and/or abuse at the homes.
Meanwhile Tusla is appealing to anyone who suffered abuse as a child at the homes to contact them on a freephone number 1800 805 665.
The child and family agency says their abuser may have continued to harm other children, and may still be a risk to children today.
