Electricity supply is to be tight for a number of years as demand outstrips supply.

The Tánaiste has said he's confident blackouts will be avoided this winter.

Leo Varadkar believes there will be enough power despite the grid being stretched.

Last night he told Fine Gael TDs he was reasonably confident power outages can be avoided.
