Today will mark the return of fans to sports events - with crowds of about 1,000 attending three matches.

They're the first of 16 trial events taking place during June and July.

One of those takes place in Kildare  - the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby Day at the Curragh, on June 26th.

1,000 tickets for that event go on sale on Monday at 10am.

Leinster Rugby are playing the Dragons at the RDS, while two League of Ireland football matches are taking place in Dublin and Cork.

Minister for Sport, Jack Chambers, says this evening will be a historic occasion.

Minister Chambers says fans will be allowed into the grounds on a staggered basis.
