Clare Crowned All-Ireland Hurling Champions

They beat Cork in Croke Park yesterday

For the first time since 2013 and only the fifth time ever Clare are the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Champions.

They beat Cork 3-29 to 1-34 after extra-time.

The sides were level at half-time, at full-time of normal time and half-time of extra-time in what was an epic.

Aidan McCarthy, Mark Rogers and Tony Kelly scored the Clare goals, while Robert Downey’s 12th minute goal for Cork’s saw the Rebels build a 7 points lead..

But, Clare hauled them back, with McCarthy’s goal beginning the fightback.

Man of the match was Clare captain Tony Kelly who scored 1-4; he was a member of the previous winning side in 2013.

The result means that the Rebels' wait to win Liam MacCarthy for a 31st time goes into a 20th year.

Cork’s 36-year-old Patrick Horgan became the leading all time scorer in championship hurling – his tally of 12 points yesterday took his overall total to 29 goals 629 points, a 717 total, to overhaul TJ Reid’s 706 points total.
