Former Naas Manager Joe Murphy Appointed Carlow Senior Football Manager

It follows Shane Curran's sudden resignation last week

Carlow have appointed Joe Murphy, the outgoing Naas manager, as their interim manager following Shane Curran's sudden resignation last week.

In a statement on 'X', Carlow confirmed Murphy's appointment on an interim basis to lead the team through the 2025 championship, which kicks off with their Leinster SFC match against Meath in Navan on Sunday.

Murphy, a former Carlow and Éire Óg player who won five Leinster club titles in the 1990s, has had a successful career in club management.

He guided Naas to three consecutive Kildare senior titles between 2022 and 2024, and previously led Éire Óg to four consecutive Carlow SFC titles from 2017 to 2020.

He will officially take on the role just six days before the championship opener in Navan, stepping in after Curran’s unexpected resignation.

The former Roscommon goalkeeper announced his departure last Wednesday, citing "player-related issues."

Two days later, the Carlow squad issued a statement distancing themselves from Curran's resignation, saying they were not responsible for his decision and expressing ongoing concerns about the overall organisation and training environment during the league campaign.
