Naas beat Sarsfields to reach Kildare SFC quarter finals.

Naas have secured their place in the Joe Mallon Motors Senior Football Championship quarter-finals.

The defending champions beat Sarsfields by 2-10 to 10 points last night.

The win came courtesy of goals from Eoghan Prizeman and Alex Beirne either side of the break.

The action continues at Manguard Park this afternoon.

Clane and Clogherinkoe throw in at 1:30.

That will be followed by the meeting of St. Laurence's and Confey.

4.30 is the start time for the game between Celbridge and Carbury.

 

Suncroft and Ballymore Eustace meet in the Auld Shebeen Athy Intermediate Football Championship at 2.00.

Leixlip and Castledermot, and Ellistown and Nurney play at 6.00.

Bournemouth are seeking their first win of campaign when Tottenham visit the Vitality in today’s lunchtime kick-off.

At 3.00 Arsenal welcome Fulham to the Emirates,

Brentford play Crystal Palace,

Everton face Wolves.

And Manchester United host Nottingham Forest.

Then at 5.30 Evan Ferguson will make his first start of the season as Brighton play West Ham.

 

A second-half header from Roberto Lopes’ maintained Shamrock Rovers’ four-point lead at the top of the SSE Airtricity Premier Division last night.

The Hoops were 1-nil winners at home to Dundalk.

Joe Redmond’s unmarked header gave second placed St. Pat’s a 1-nil win at UCD.

Bohemians and Derry City drew 2-2 at Dalymount, denting both sides’ title hopes.

Cork City appear doomed to the relegation play-off - they had Malik Dijksteel (pr: Dyke-steel) sent off in a 3-1 defeat at Drogheda.

Tonight, Sligo Rovers welcome Shelbourne to the Showgrounds.

Galway United remain on course for the First Division title after last night’s 4-1 hammering of Cobh Ramblers.

Cameron Cresswell netted the only goal and was later sent-off as Waterford won 1-nil at Bray.

Wexford strengthened their playoff hopes with a 2-nil win away to Athlone.

Longford Town 1-nil winners away to ten-man Finn Harps.

And Treaty United beat Kerry 3-1.

RUGBY

Tonight is a final chance for some Ireland players to stake their claim for inclusion in Andy Farrell’s World Cup squad.

Iain Henderson captains a much-changed Ireland who take on Samoa in Bayonne.

Kick-off there is at 8pm Irish time.


Last night could prove costly to the All Blacks’ World Cup hopes.

Scott Barrett is facing a ban following his red card against the Springboks at Twickenham, while Tyrel Lomax suffered a knee injury.

There’s no Rhasidat Adeleke, but Ireland are in 4-by-400-metre relay action this evening at the World Championships.

Last night in Budapest saw Shericka Jackson and Noah Lyles retain their respective 200-metre world titles.


GOLF

John Murphy is best of the Irish heading into the third day of the Czech Masters.

The Cork golfer is 6-under par.

Padraig Harrington is 5-under.

But it’s the Swede, Alexander Bjork, that heads the field on 13-under par.

 

HOCKEY

Ireland’s women team have taken one more step towards qualification for next year's Olympics.

A 1-all draw with Italy in their final EuroHockey Pool C game secures their place in a qualifying tournament in January.

 

RACING

There’s a seven-race card at The Curragh this evening with the first off at 5.04

While the August festival at Killarney comes to a close with an eight-race programme commencing at 1.55.
